I've asked this question inside another thread but had no replies so i thought i should post seperatley;

I have spotted the Felt QX85 on Wiggle quite heavily discounted, those that have seen my other threads will know that i'm looking to change from drops to flat bars as they are playing havoc with my back and neck (old car accident injuries).

It has been suggested that things like the Boardmans are still quite racy and i might find them uncomfortable and as i cannot take them for a proper test ride then i may steer clear.

The Felt sounds ideal in that it's comfortable and fast plus robust for the daily commute with panniers.

My question is on the components, i don't know enough to tell if they are half decent or not?

Anyone here got one?

I have a Felt QX 95 which I bought 2 years ago discounted and was not sure what to buy as I was taking up cycling for the first time since childhood.

I've done around 8000 miles since then all year round. You need to do the usual maintenace grease bearings and adjustments etc, other than normal wear and tear nothing has broken or failed. I find that the cycleparts are of a high quality.

However with more experience of cycling and what suits me, I've changed the pedals and fitted, mudguards, carrier and disc brakes (this required new wheels ).

Essenially changed it into a QX85 which I should have bought, hindsight and all that. It would have cheaper too!

Thanks aoj, I intend on fitting guards, rack and probably change the Tyres to marathon pluses or such like. Hydraulic discs are really attractive too, my current cantis are scary in the wet!

Good to hear they are a nice strong bike, thus is looking like a favourite at the moment. How do you find the riding position, comfortable and not bum in the air?!

Hi Mike

I fitted a stem riser which still feels bent over to me but not too upright, I do not have any desire to go to drops as seems to be the norm for most people after the initial hybrid stage.

Like all new cyclists I've tried various things like clipless pedals, now on DMR V8 shin skinners, Brooks saddle after 500 miles not for me, I'm still using the original saddle which I feel to be comfortable enough to do up to 65 miles at a time with only a few brief stops.

I had Marathons, I now have Conti Travel Contacts which I find better for mixed road/tracks and the odd forest road etc. They are not much good just now as I tried to get out today, it's solid ice around here! (Scotland )

Ok thanks for that. I don't feel to uncomfortable riding the tops of my drops but it just doesn't feel nice having my hands so close together, makes the bike very twitchy! Riding the hoods is less so but then I get uncomfortable.

Wish I'd have investigated more before buying my current ride but never mind, I'll get there!!

Flats for me too!
