Remember this one for your pub quizzes. Belgium has three official languages: French, Flemish (=±Nederlands) and German. The German territories are in the far east of the country around the towns of Eupen and St Vith. As geography would have it, the German-speaking area is completely contained within the French-speaking area except for where it actually abuts the German border. Under the Belgian constitution it forms one of the three federal communities but is a part of the French-speaking Province of Liège.
