Mine has to be Thomas Hardy, just love 'Far from the madding crowd'.

Charles Dickens, love all of his books as well.

Both authors give a good insight to the social history of the Victorian age as well as the social injustaces [spelling?]

Kenneth Follet, 'World without end', brilliant medieval fiction.

Based simply on the numbers of novels I have of each...

Walter Mosley, Ursula Le Guin, Peter Matthiesen, Murakami Haruki, Ian McDonald, Geoff Ryman, Phillip K. Dick, Christopher Priest, Brian Aldiss, J.G. Ballard

But I have no idea who my favourites are - I can tell any particular week which my favourite books are (but we've done that!)

authors

terry pratchett (all his stuff), aldous Huxley (doors of perception and Brave new World), HG Wells (most of his stuff - ) and CJ Stone...(you gotta read housing benefit Hill)

Then add -
Bernard hare - Urban Grimshaw and the Shed Crew
several meanderings by Timothy (IM on a acid trip) Leary
and The way of the Wizard by Depak Chopkra (makes a lot of sense);)

I must be a sad bugger lol

Charles Bukowski. Even his lesser novels flow so well that I simply cannot put them down, and his best ones (Post Office, Factotum, Ham on Rye) are riveting.

Ah, an excellent writer - I just don't own any of his books. Did you see the film version of 'Factotum'? It was, I thought, surprisingly enjoyable.

I used to read a lot of SF - Dick, LeGuin, Asimov, Donaldson and Herbert - I have read practically all that they have written.
I also read Ian Banks (and Ian M Banks)
These days, I don't get much chance to read fiction. I have worked my way through the Rebus books and am picking my way through Chris Brookmyre and have dipped into Carl Hiaasen.

Added to my Lovefilm list - thanks for the reminder.

I'd really like to see Barfly, which Bukowski collaborated on (a collaboration which was the main subject matter of his book "Hollywood"), but it is not easily obtainable.

Based on which I've read most:
Peter O' Donnell who wrote the Modesty Blaise series of novels (thoroughly good yarns).
Patricia Cornwell for her Kay Scarpetta series (though bored with them now).
E.E."Doc" Smith for his Lensman series.
Isaac Asimov for almost everything he has written.
JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings

Not the greatest authors out there but some of my favourites.
