i've been told that next monday I need to follow a fat- free diet for 24 hours prior to further hospital tests. i've got the food sorted im' just wondering about tea and coffee. i know rice milk and soya milk are very low in fat but can they be used in tea and coffee without spoiling the taste, or can anyone suggest a better alternative. i'm convinced i'll die if i can't have a cuppa for 24 hours!!

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Skimmed (cows) milk is typically extremely low fat - 0.1% - 0.3%. I rarely have anything else these days.

Or, since it's just for 24 hours, drink the coffee black.

Red Bush (Roiboos), Green tea, Earl Grey and plenty of others are all drunk without milk.

Frankly, putting milk in tea is (like a "well done" steak or fizzy beer) just plain savage! ;)

Here for rides.
weak black tea is nice, drop of lemon to get rid of the tannin, and you should be able to clearly see the bottom of the cup or it will put your teeth on edge.

I only use non-fat milk.

I only have milk in coffee, my tea is always black (no milk, no sugar), that way it's supposed to be an detoxin, and you can taste the tea, not just the milk or sugar.

I would guess this is to do with your gall bladder?

If so the idea is to have the gall bladder full. ANY fat, even the smallest amount will trigger the emptying.

We had one patient who failed to prepare several times yet swore she had kept to the instructions.

After the third attempt we went through things in detail, it turned out that she was cooking her husband's breakfast, and of course the repsponse to the smell of frying bacon and egg is for the gall bladder to empty.

Soya milk only curdles in coffee if you make the coffee too hot. If you make it at 90 degrees, as it should be, the milk doesn't curdle. (I'm intolerant to dairy, so use soya milk all the time.)

It's not only temperature - acidity in the coffee will also cause the soya milk to clot as it's a metastable colloidal suspension. So some typres of coffee are worse that others - needless to say, instant is OK, but Kenyan, Brazilian and other mild(-ish) coffees are OK, while I find Yemani, Sumatran, Javan and Cuban all too acidic for a stable mix. High roast also tends to clotting.

Mind you, I only drink black so I'm not bothered.
