Can anyone tell me what the frame number is on this bike and what it can tell me about the age etc? I cannot find this bike anywhere else on the internet.

I am looking at bringing it back to life , is it worth doing?
John.

Hi, as indicated above, worth doing, this looks like a 56/57 ( the X looks like the date ) Parkes clone of a Sun model ( V may mean Super Vitesse ), after the war Parkes ( who owned Sun ) tried to associate the Parkes name with the better Models in the range, but it looks like it didn't catch on, and by the mid to late 50's they were just Sun clones. Unless you can track down a Parkes catalogue you may never know the model, but it is rare ( rare doesn't necessarily mean collectible and valuable with Bikes ) and worth putting time and effort into.

Well worth doing up, I have one and think it is a lovely ride (also nice to be riding a frame which is about my age - maybe just a little older )

https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/parkes-lightweight.245658/

As for spending on it/"value", I am sure that I spent more on it than I could recoup. But value to me outweighs any "losses".
Whether it is a rebadged or selected Sun cycles frame doesn't matter to me - I think it is a thing of beauty (I also like the snob value of riding a bike that is not mainstream😊)

I looked at the following sites for inspiration when I bought the frame:

Looks just like the 1958 Parkes Sirocco I had and in the same colour. I would be good to see the other side of the bike but mine had a single Williams Chainset like your design and a Benelux 5 gear set up, GB Sport brakes, cut away saddle and a steel stem with a Parkes badge.
Definately worth keeping.
