Hi people!
I'm going to fly to Olso with Ryanair and I'll take my bike with me.
I' d like to know from someone who had expoeriences with Ryanair and bikes: how many time you need to get your bike back after the arrival?
I mean, I don' t think they will put the bike over the tapis-roullant with the normal baggages, I'd like to know hot it works and how many extra time it takes away, because I have just 40 min for my train after the arrival!!
Thank you.

I've taken my bike with Ryanair several times, and it's a different experience every time.

You should arrive early so that they have time to pick up your bike and take it to the plane - it normally has to go through a special door and not with the other luggage. Their webpage says that you "must remove pedals and turn handlebars parallel to the frame and that the tyres should be desinflated and the bike should be in a box or special cycle bag". I have seen bikes on the plane without any of the above, I have also been told that I must have a box. If you are patient and smile you can get your bike on the plane without doing anything to it.

The other end also depends on the airport. The bike always comes with the other luggage, however, it is not normally put on the belt with the suitcases, it will be taken through another door immediately after the suitcases have been unloaded. Everything depends on the airport.

I went to Memmingen this summer and had to watch as eight or ten suitcases were dropped on my bike as they were unloading the plane. Susprisingly nothing seemed to have been damaged. On the return flight I saw my bike, and two others, being taken off the plane and placed to one side until they had finished unloading the suitcases. Unfortunately there were several scratches on the frame caused by the pedals of one the bikes as it was leaning against mine.

I will continue to take my bike by plane and accept that it may be damaged. So far, after several flights, I have had nothing more than scratches to the frame (perhaps next time I will protect it with something).

Enjoy your holiday.

I'm not sure how long it'll take to get your bike, but trains, either to Oslo or the south, go quite regularly!
