Hi Gang,

For the longest time I've stored my bikes indoors, which is great in terms of security and when it was only storing my fair weather bike so didn't have worry about getting the walls dirty. However, now I'm getting a bit fed up of my commuter bike tracking mud into the house and taking a valuable space up in the room I put it.

So now I'm thinking about storing the bike outside (until we build our extension in 1-2 years) and looking for recommendations on secure storage that I can install in our lean-to area on the side of the house. I appreciate there's an inherent risk storing outside that means opportunity for theft is increased, but thinking ground/wall anchors and some heft D-Locks / chains might be an option and wanted peoples opinions if they have similar set ups.

If you have the space, look at Asgard bike sheds.

Pragmasis ground anchor in my garage. Not 100% scrote proof but it will make the barstewards work for it and make a lot of noise in the process.

Rawlbolt or similar in a wall. Hole slightly bigger and fill hold with resin fixer. Once it's set, it's set.
You'll need an angle grinder or be able to rotate the bike through 360° several times.

I have similar ground anchors in the shed. Cut holes into floor so they are mounted into the concrete hard standing

With mine the 4" bolts are epoxied into drilled holes in the concrete, then ball bearings hammered into the hex hole of each bolt, then hardened steel plates hammered over the top into the bolt holes, flush with the body of the anchor.

Plenty of options. Is the bike under a covered area - seems it might be. One thing to note, when it's cold and icy, you've more chance of the gears freezing, especially if it's been wet the day before, so pay attention to cables and mechs and they are lubed and dry. I've had a freehub freeze once, but more often it's the rear gear cable. Takes a few miles and regular 'shifts' to free it. Happened a couple of times last winter (bike in a detached garage).

mine has expanding bolts that the head has a bit that snapped off once tightened so you cant get a spanner on them without lifting the whole shed out of the way as the bit you can undo is below the level of the floor .

I got a bit paranoid after mine got nicked from the garage. I've now got an external garage door lock to stop the door being opened without removing the lock and 2 ground anchors inside the garage which the bike is double locked onto. It's a pain because I now have to allow extra time every time I want to go into the garage or take the bike out, probably why I don't ride as much.

Makes us realise how lucky we are. Eight bikes between us and all kept in the lobby - ! :okay:
AND before anyone asks, yes we can still walk through said lobby - !

How big a house have you got to have a lobby!:okay:
It's a three bed semi. For 'lobby' read hallway if you want to be posh - ! Four of the GLW's five bikes under the stairs, t'other in't kitchen and my three; one hung on the wall and t'other two underneath it towards the front door which we haven't used for years.
Job's a good 'un - ! ^_^:okay:
