I'm keen on these.

I want something convenient (no separate battery pack and easy to remove from the bike); robust (waterproof) and "see by" bright (as opposed to just "be seen").

Can anyone share their direct experience of them?

Thanks & regards.

I wouldn't class it as a see by light, it only produces around 8 lux at 2meters from 0 degrees, compare that to something like the hope vision one or exposure joystick which produce nearly 1,000 lux in the same situation.

From my experience of seeing other cyclists using them, they are good, the flash on the flash is annoying if pointed too high up. some people seem to get hooked on the fact that it can flash and be constant at the same time, not really a big benefit in my eyes as you should really be running two lights at the front and two at the back incase the battery dies in one.

Got some, love them. I've actually got two Flares, as I bought one when they first appeared then got another in a Flash/Flare bundle because of the rechargeable batteries and charger.

I have them on pretty much all the time when I'm riding, day or night, they are easily bright enough to be seen in daylight and, again during daylight, the fact that they don't flash to dark means that you do have something constantly there to catch attention.

However, whilst they are fantastic attention grabbers, I wouldn't consider them to be a "see" light as Gaz says. The light is fairly scattered, and covers an arc of over 180 degrees, so you can be seen from any angle (with one front and one rear) but they don't put out enough light to give carefree night time riding.

In fact, I've just come back from a ride (yeah, sorry about the smell, I'll take a shower soon  ) and I did ride briefly with just the Flash. It's just about ok at around 10mph but you quickly overtake the shadows at much above that speed.

That said, I think that the Flash/Flare combo remains a fantastic pair of lights at a very good package price. They are incredibly small, lightweight and convenient and, again supporting Gaz's post about running two lights, they make an excellent second pair.

Thanks for getting back to me: very much appreciated.

So they aren't lights to see by, but are otherwise well regarded.

As my commutes are on familiar roads and only relatively short stretches are unlit I can live with that, especially when considering the cost of "see by" lights. I can always buy another front light if I do more extensive night-riding.

Their convenience and Paul's bargain link have made my mind up!

Thanks again.

PS Yes, I do run a pair front and rear (three at the back actually).
