My local club has a audax tomorrow with a 60 mile and a 60k route. In an effort to get the rest of the family out I signed them up to the shorter route. They'll be with familiar faces and should get on fine with the slower riders.

The wife would take her mountain bike, front sus wound up hard and cityjet road tyres, still all squishy in my mind so I lowered the seat on my felt qx85 hybrid and let her try it down the street. Ten minutes later she came back with a big grin on her face saying how much nicer it was to ride, smoother gear change, better brakes, easier to pedal etc etc. So she's taking that tomorrow instead.

Is this a mistake that will end up with someone pestering after new bike? Probably!

Something very similar happened to me!

My wife was (is still) riding a Ridgeback Panorama to work which is a poor fit for her so I took her to my LBS. She wanted to have the Ridgeback fitted to her as well as could be done given it's limits but in the meantime she started chatting about her desire to take up road biking more seriously rather than just commute on her tank of a tourer. Maybe join a club etc. etc....

After three more visits to the LBS she still commutes on her now better fitting Ridgeback but also chases me around Richmond Park and the Surrey hills on a perfectly fitting Spesh Ruby Elite!!! A big dent in the credit card is worth it for the fact she absolutely loves it and loves being out on it.

It really is a lovely bike and the whole fitting process has filled her with so much confidence she's on the perfect bike for her. As the advert says, new shoes and SPD-SL's...£120, new Spesh Ruby...over a grand.... seeing my wife chomping at the bit to get out riding at the weekend and the weeks stress melt away a few miles down the road....priceless!

Enjoy!

Ha!

The Felt was new in August, so I don't think _I_ could get away with two new bikes in one year, plus the frame is too big for her really, as for her mtb, that was new in January.
