Well, where to begin? Against the competition, of the large and well organised sportives, 'The Beauty' is one of the most competatively priced. Great emphasis is placed on safety, with a fleet of recovery vehicles, mobile paramedic teams, NEG moto support and - because mobile signals can not be relied on over Exmoor - satelite communications. The latter made a significant contribution to the successful outcome of a life-threatening accident during the Exmoor Beast. Add to this the cost of hiring a large venue, providing all the equipment required to run a big event - insurance, on-line registration levies, barriers, timing and sound systems, static marshals, registration team, office admin staff. first aiders, route cards, feeding station stock, t-shirts etc, etc. - and £29 looks like VFM to me. The above list is, by no means, exhaustive; suffice it to say that a relatively modest surplus remains after all the bills are paid. Clearly, the thousand riders who entered last time are happy to pay the entry fee and a couple of hundred are already signed up for next year. Hope this clarifies the issue.
