Exercising too much

Puzzle game procrastinator!
30 minutes vigorous exercise, just 3 or 4 times a week!

Okay, we could pretty much give up cycling, but presumably people who actually do physical jobs are doomed then?

I used to do a very hard labouring job for 50-55 hours a week and go running and swimming 5 times a week on top of that!

I don't even care if exercise doesn't prolong my life - I'd rather do what I like and enjoy living to 80-odd than be fearful and cautious and live to 100!

and I haven't because I' too lazy

This looks very like a case of a journalist who doesn't have any understanding of the science. Running ultra-marathons every day is probably not good for your health, whereas the 30mins exercise 3-4 times a week is actually less than the recommended minimum amount of exercise.

This is what the NHS website says on exercise: -
Adults should do a minimum of 30 minutes moderate-intensity physical activity, at least five days a week. For children and young people, the target is at least 60 minutes a day.
I'd take any of these kind of articles with a pinch of salt... oh hang-on, that's bad for us...

Honestly not worth reading as we know nothing about the tests or the basis of their results. Read Ben Goldacre's 'Bad Science' to put these articles into perspective.

Moderation in all things is still I think a good motto. We all know how to eat and drink sensibly, we all know that regular cardiovascular excercise is beneficial (up to a point) and we know what a healthy body-shape looks like.
Rocket science it ain't.

I have a quite long commute, 5 days a week. It takes over an hour each way this time of year
But the actual time I spend breathless is a tiny fraction of that

As for the BMI, most champion cyclists of the past, not the under weight climbers of today, have a BMI of 23 or 24. But the BMI is a notoriously crap measure of anything, good for populations poor for individuals

it says exercise til your breathless. The only time i'm breathless if after i climbed a hill and then you get a natural rest anyway. When was the last time you came back from a ride and was breathless. Exactly. i'll carry on as i am then thanks.

load of old bollocks if you ask me. i'm happy without cellulite so i'll keep on riding.

>men can be content if their waist is less than 38 inches

38??
Pah !
At 5'10", 39" chest, 75kg and ~32" waist according to amount of pies/cycling, I reckon a 38" waist would take a fair bit of porking-up to reach - and it's not like I haven't already got love handles that could do with shifting.

The waist needs to be measured about an inch below the belly button, I have a big difference between that measurement and the waist on trousers/jeans I can wear. As for porking up, yep it does, and I can vaguely remember when I could still fit into a 38"

I lost all interest when it got to the alcohol section, the units quoted are crap, always have been crap, and will remain crap forever. The recommended daily allowance, if memory serves correctly, was made up with no basis in science simply so they could have a figure to quote at people.
At a recent check up when registering at a new surgery the nurse quizzed my and my fiancée on various health things, and replied when I mentioned that the daily allowance meant nothing, that she agreed and it was known that it had no basis in reality but they have to spout the party line.

What a load of 60110ck5.

Sneakingly suspect that the source material and its research methodology might not stand too much scrutiny.

Amheirchion is right, and add to that that 5 a day was nicked from a Californian fruit juice advert - no expensive research needed!

Every time I do interval training, hill sprints or a TT.

I find that taking vitamin G at least three times a week helps keep me regular.
But since it has gone up to £3 + per pint it works out pretty expensive.
