Depends on your local Evans store tbh.

Deansgate I know fairly well. IMO, the workshop guys are competent and I have had a few bits and bobs done there when it was not worth buying the tools to do it myself (i.e. one off jobs). Some of the shop floor staff are a bit less than confidence inspiring though (they used to have good floor staff too, but seems a fair few have moved on in the last 2 years) so make sure you either speak to a good one or the mechanic to make sure they know what you want doing. Harry Halls and the Bike Doctor are both good bike shops for such services as well.

Nope, got my bike from a welsh store. tbh it needs a service but i'm wondering if my local deansgate store is any good.

When you say a welsh store, do you mean a branch of Evans or another company?

Reason I ask is that afaik the Evans Gold service is only done on bikes that you originally purchased from them.

Last time i checked, they only did their own bikes, and they had another option for non evan bikes, but they have simplified it now, which is good

not seen owt that says evans bikes only. i originally got mine from tredz (never again).
I've ordered a few 'parts' from Tredz and quickly got the impression that it's not a good store!

As to paying £72 for a service - well, it's not something I would ever do, or have ever done. I have done everything myself since the age of 11. However, I know that tools these days are very expensive, and that also, some people are just not very good at mechanical stuff. What is strange is that such people, often tend to end up working in bike shops! I wouldn't trust many shops at all with my bikes.

Bear in mind that any parts needed will be added to the £72, and if it's a full service that could add up to quite a lot of money, eg. chain, cassette, cables, brake pads etc. If you can't afford to spend an extra £50-£100 on all this stuff then no point spending £72 on service either really.

my prob isn't really tools. its space. i don't have a garage or a decent area with which to do it all myself.
i'd love to. tbh i've always said if i had a garage it'd have running water a log stove and several workbenches setup
