I've done two now, the Somerset and today the Dartmoor and I would like to thank Evans for two fantastic events.

Well organised, good feed stations, loads of freebies and all for £17-50, ridiculous value for money compared to the others I've done ,so well done Evans.

I did the 'Hoy 100' ride, but a couple of years ago. Yes it was £25 but I got:

- Breakfast
- Food en route, lots of
- Dinner at the end
- Repair done on the bike en route with cable FOC
- Goody bag at the end plus lots of other stuff

The goody bag/stuff was worth at least £50 - and I sold some items on eBay for around £20 which I didn't want.

So I'd echo that it's worth it.

Not done any Evans sportives yet but I did do the grindleford goat a couple of weeks ago, I get what people mean about paying for riding roads that you can ride for free but I don't think it's about that. The camaraderie of riding with lots of other like minded cyclists and having the knowledge that there's a feed station and mechanical backup there if needed is worth the cost in my opinion. I'll definitely be doing more - l'eroica Brittania will be at the top of my list for next year.

They are an even better bargain if you register for the fun route and do the long one.
...or just roll-up and ride-along for free ....

I have to say it's getting a bit ridiculous with the way sportives are being priced. I've just payed £25 to do the Kinross sportive in Scotland. £5 goes to charities so I think £20 is reasonable. The Caladonian ETAPE will be charging £65-70. You get closed roads and not slot else

Exactly, you pay your monies what for what you enjoy.

I agree that £25 is about the max I would pay for a bog standard one, But closed roads cost lots of money to organise and marshal.
And riding as fast as you can on closed roads in a large group is very exciting and not something you get to do every day.

Sportives are generally commercial enterprises. Pricing is a reflection of what is provided and demand for the event. At the moment there seems to be a lot of growth in the market and as such Sportives aren't really having to compete to get entrants. I suspect that will change in the next couple of years and we will see a lot more competitive marketing of events and some events not being continued

This, coupled with the possible rejection by people not wishing to pay sportive prices. That does not mean to say that current numbers will diminish, rather many more people will become price sensitive and seek out other less expensive activities such as club runs, audaxes, etc.
