Anyone thinking or have previously done the Evans Ride it events?

I've commute daily about 3 miles each way, and do weekend towpath rides of about 15-20 miles. No very quick thou!

I'm thinking of challenging myself to the medium ride in leeds 50 miles? It's not until beginning of March so should be able to build up to it. (I hope)

Anyone else thinking about challenging themselves?

Go for it. It's good to have a challenge. Hae spent a lot of time in Leeds this year, but haven't cycled yet. I'd imagine there's a hill or ten on the route ?

I've done a few Evans events and they have been really well organised, good value for money IMO.

My first was the Leeds one last year, and if they use the same route, I found it tough. At the time I was doing similar riding to the OP, furthest I'd ridden was 31 miles with about 2000ft climbing. The Sportive route was 50 miles and 4500ft climbing, and it was -1C when we set off :cold:

It was hard, long climbs, steep climbs and right at the end you tackle a half-mile climb that peaks at 10%, I was exhausted when I dragged myself back into the hall and found a heater to cuddle.

Loved it. It was a challenge, I didn't manage to do all the climbs non-stop, but that didn't matter, I pedalled the whole way even if I did need a breather now and again and even if I was pacing myself to a guy on an MTB up the last hills at 4mph. I'm strongly tempted to enter it again TBH.

Go for it, but you'll need to work your distance up a bit and get some climbing practice as much as you can. Do that and you will get round the course, that's all I was aiming for :bicycle:

Good luck!

I also did it last year but underestimated the number of hills there would be, also went on a 25 rear cassette , a big coat and a flask of soup, it was like dragging an anchor up some of the hills.
To top it if off i had a chest infection, and after 20 miles wished i had stayed at home.
I stopped at the little post office where the route crosses and after eating my butties and drinking the soup took the short cut way back, so only did 30 miles.

Apart from my own ineptness it was well organised and for the money very good value

Think I may have over estimated my own ability. Going to book the 30 miles, Im no good on hills. Ive got a hill I can incorporate into my commute home, going to give it tonight... wish me luck

Yes, that's the one. If you do it, I hope it's a bit warmer than this year. They usually set riders off in groups, but with 100 or so shivering cyclists queuing up at 8:30am, everyone just went at once

Also, I recommend the chilli when you finish
