Evans have a notice in their store which offers a promise to match any online price.
Following the advice of Dayvo of this parish I asked in Evans yesterday if they price match their own online prices and they do.
So I got some M520 pedals for £22 instead of the shop-marked price of £31.
Crazy?
If you were unaware of the policy but price conscious you might well conclude that Evans were too expensive and go elsewhere but I suppose they rip off the occasional customer who'll pay full whack.
Seems a strange business model to me though.

You just take in the advert, or pop it up on your phone. I think it needs to be a main retailer - but there is plenty of choice.

Wish I knew about that back in June though, my Ritchey WCS bars would have been cheaper !

I knew they'd match other retailers (including delivery if online) but to match their own online price I find strange.

Missed that - own online price  - their web site does say store prices are different.

I've not found the stores particularly cheap - only bought a bike and a 'half' from them but in the sale (the half is a tag-a-long).

Not really. The marked price is simply an invitation to buy, i.e. a starting point to negotiate from. Anyone is able to haggle, it's up to the retailer or shop manager whether to accept the offer. My LBS has a discount scheme which matches their online prices. A regular customer would be aware of it but it isn't advertised in store to the casual shopper, as for other outlets if you don't ask you don't get. I'm more surprised in times where we're all tightening our belts that people don't bother to haggle.

There's no way you could haggle successfully with an employee at Evans any more than you could at Tescos. It's possible at smaller LBS's. The point is that they are giving cheaper in-store prices but only to those who have bothered to or are able to check online first.

Yah, I will need a new drive chain once winter is over, so just bought a chain, cassette and chain ring. The chain and cassette were cheaper at CRC but the chain ring was cheaper at Evans. I just got Evans to price match the items and got the price of all three down from £106.97 to £79.98. A saving of £26.99!!

Evans @ Trafford have got so used to me (and others) wandering round the shop Googling on the phone that when I've asked at the till they've done the Googling for me.
