Etrex Ride Logging

I've just taken delivery of an Etrex 20 mainly for extended audax rides. I normally use an Edge 705 and tend to log each ride (short and long) for Strava and MCL. The Extrex manual is a bit lacking in detail and I cannot work out how to start/pause/stop the trip computer function as the clock is already ticking when it is switched on and distance is added as the signal jumps around a little between satellites even when stationary.

Any help much appreciated.

I use an etrex 30 but guess it will work in the same way.

Every time you turn on the unit it will record a track, turn the unit on an off 3 times and you get 3 separate tracks. If you download garmin base camp to your computer you can then join the tracks together into 1 and upload to the likes of strava. The last thing I do before starting is to reset the trip, From the menu page select "trip computer" press "menu" select "reset" select "reset trip data" "yes"

Alternatively you can change the content of the boxes on the trip computer to give you information such as overall average speed, moving average speed, total time, moving time

With regards to the signal jumping do you have GPS & GLONASS turned on, in my understanding this will help to improve the accuracy of the unit. From the menu page "setup" "System" "Satellite system"
