re-reading the pretty good book 'french revolutions' in which moore cycles the TDF route. anyway, he's in the pyrenees and struggling abit so he's woofing down hay fever medicene which apparently has high ephedrine levels to give him that boost to keep on going. does anyone here admit to doing likewise??
i'll admit to a pint of black sheep halfway round a 50 miler to keep my strength up...

alledgedly epherdrine was the tablet of choice for rugby players a number of years ago, so i was told anyway

similar to high levels of caffiene i was told

Hayfever tablets make me feel fatigued, even the one's that aren't supposed to. Tim Moore is a git anyway.

I can prescribe ephedrine, would never dream of using it though.

Wondered why I had seen all these caffeine things in Decathlon, there's a whole world out there I know nowt about.

AFAIK it's what's in diet pills, but less strong. Ephedrine plus caffeine together keep you awake and going for longer, with a warm glow of feel good, or so I'm told. Some of the audaxers were discussing this over on yacf.

Just caffeine on its own is enough for me to worry about, it makes me ride fast enough to really hurt my chances of recovery for the next day's commute.

when i was a professional rugby player we were sent all kins of info from the rugby league telling us what was banned and what we cannot take
caffiene was and i presume still is a bnanned substance, it equated to around 4 strong cups i believe.
ime drugs were everywhere, nobody tried to cover it up, it was pretty much accepted, doesnt seem like that now thankfully but thats why it dont surprise me now that sports people take drugs

in their defense i dont think it is striaght forward, what is a drug, how do you define it, why are some banned and some are not etc etc have we lost the fight?

AIUI Ephedrine is a banned substance in cycling during racing, but out of season it's ok to use it if you want to. Not something I've tried though. 200-300mg of caffeine about 90 mins before a race seems to give me a bit of a kick though.

Ephedrine is a decongestant rather than a hayfever remedy. You can get a synthetic version called Pseudophedrine; check out Sudafed; they have two versions if you check the ingredients, one with, and one with an alternative. Boots do their own brand with Pseudephedrine in too.

I was really bunged up one time and took some a little while before going for a 10km run one time; yes it helped me breathe, yes it still gave me a kick in that I was feeling all jittery, I got close to a PB for that course (don't know if it was coincidence) but I was overheating.

Incidentally, Pseudophedrine was reintroduced to the IOC banned substance list at the beginning of last year, and is apparently the main ingredient used to make methamphetamine

I was prescribed Pseudophedrine for blocked sinuses and Eustachian tube. Three a day had me jittery and unable to sleep but boy did it clear the tubes!! I found I was riding much faster while taking them but suffered after longer rides, with overheating a real issue!
