Just been thinking about maybe doing some time trialling. I'm thinking about cycling a 10m time trial. Last time at herne hill velodrome I rode 32.4km in 57.03, avg speed 34kmh. Do i realistically have a chance ?

Cheers.

You ought to be able to do an 'evens' (sub 30 min) ride without too much trouble which would be fine for a first try. Just give a local club event a try, bearing in mind the seasons coming to an end.

I've only ever done hill TTs but from what I recall the range for a 10mile TT in our club is between 21min and 31 mins (29mph - 19mph) (45kph-31kph) so you'll not win but its good fun taking part. On my first Hill TT my practice run was only 8min 40 but on the night I got it down to 7:40 with adrenalin, its a great feeling, the bloke who won it done it in 6:07  :becool: :bravo: I preferred my 2nd TT although it was steeper, I didn't set off No.1 and I managed to reel in my minute man and did a 10:24, the winner done 7:26  :becool: :bravo:. My times got me just lower than halfway in the standing but the adrenalin rush was great, good luck and enjoy :hyper:

I reckon 27 minutes for a 10 miler (course dependent) would be a good aim given the speeds you quoted...which is respectable, so dont be afraid to enter!

I'm a relative newbie - having done 4 club TTs on a rather lumpy course.

For me its about improving my time rather than what anyone else does. I use a standard road bike, which is the same as some others, while some people have TT bikes with disk wheels. I don't think I've been so exhausted in years as I was when I finished my first one. Enjoy it - your first one will be a stab in the dark, but you then know what you need to do!

I've just got a single speed with a flip-flop hub - I'm seriously thinking of having a go at the local Wednesday eveing 10miler next summer - probably fixed to the jubilation of the local bike shop who built if for me  I'll be well chuffed with evens first few times out even though it's minutes off my best over the distance (but it's definitely a lumpy course) but of course that was a long time ago :becool:

You just have to get out there and have a go - nobody laughs if you're having a go (the only laughter might be for a neophyte with all the gear and no muscles but at least it would be behind his back - to his face everyone would be admiring the bike ;))
