Enigma Headset

Hi,
Can anyone please help me? I have a Enigma evolution titanium integrated headset, with a 2002 Litespeed Tuscany, although I am having trouble tightening the headset so it stops 'rocking' with the forks. Does anyone know where I am going wrong? I can't seem to get the headset 'seated' properly. Thanks.

Without pics its difficult to say, but assuming that nothing has changed and it did work once it may be the bearings have worn. I take it you are loosening the stem bolts before tightening the the steer cap/bung/starnut?

Also have you got enough of a gap between steerer and stem/spacers otherwise you won't be able to tighten the headset.

As above, the top cap should be tightening onto the stem or a spacer above the stem - it should not be capable of touching the top of the steerer. Your symptoms suggest that the top cap is tightening onto the top of the steerer. Note the some top caps have a bevel so that even if the steerer is below the level of the stem or spacer, there can still be contact, so an extra (or bigger) spacer is required.

Thanks Somewhere and boydj for replying to my post. I top cap isn't tightening onto the steerer, I am using two Zipp carbon spacers to make a big enough gap for the headset to tighten. I'll have to go back and double check everything to see where I am going wrong.

How much of an idiot am I! I was tightening the stem before the headset bolt and managed to completely shear off the bolt head! I've built this bike up from scratch twice! Thank you for reminding me where I am going wrong! Dear me, talk about crimes against bicycles!

It's always a comfort to know that there are other people out there who make these sort of mistakes from time to time.
