Hi peeps,
Just got the heart rate monitor and hoping to do some training with endurance and sprints thrown in. I understand that I need to get a good base fitness first as just getting back into this after 20 years.
I need some type of program that i can work to, seems the ones all over the net you have to pay for and then you don't known if they're any good.
Was wondering if anyone could recommend any free ones and locations.

Cheers

what is the objective of your 'training'..?

I want to build myself up to comfortably do the 100 and have the extra if required . Build the fitness and see which route it takes me. Im 44 so nothing serious, not gonna be competing with team sky.

Press ups,sit ups,leg raises.
Some.walking and running. I have even started doing weights again, not to build bulk, just to tone.

I built from nothing to a hilly 100 in 8 months this year. Increase individual ride mileage slowly, be careful not to massively increase weekly mileage, small steps if possible. If I pushed too fast the front of my knees hurt so I eased off. Listen to your body, muscle aches are fine (and needed), joint pain isn't. Once you can stay on the bike 3 hours you'll know your bike setup is ok, spend as much money as you can on contact points (hands, bum, feet).

Loosing any excess weight will be useful. When you can do 60 you can do 100, it's just in ride nutrition that's different.

Good luck!

I m just saying that there is other ways of building base fitness.Ofcourse cycling more will help ,but can also be demotivating when your not progressing as much as you think you should be so having other options can help

Like I said before - base fitness for cycling is best built on a bike.

we all develop distance covered in different ways, and times you need to do it slowly bit by bit no good someone saying month 1 20 miles month 2 30 and so on,terrain is a factor you will want to do some hills so mix distance with speed with hills, rest is important, and concentrating on your cycling needs as your time in the saddle grows, mix in some running if you wish,or some prescribed gym sets,i am a strong believer in pilates for core strength strong posture and secure balance,it can only improve your riding experience, ride with friends and solo and family and commute different types of riding varies your training, god luck with your journey and stay safe
