From the website it looks to be a well-organised ride - quite ambitious for a first-time event. £28 seems reasonable for what you are going to get compared to other events on the calendar.

Just did an Evans Ride It: timing etc, free drinks and gels, £12.50.
Granted its January, but even so in that context Lionheart looks well overpriced.

Agreed, I don't think anyone minds parting with £10-20 for a sportive but beyond £20 is getting a bit much unless some fantastic 'freebies' are being offered. Offering no food/water and still charging that price is a flat NO.

Looking at the website, there are 3 feedstations on the 100mile route, plus "free" hot food at the finish, and all support services now expected. Also there's a medal for completing the course!!
Even so, £28 is pushing it.

Hi There....this is Endura Lionheart here!

In response to a couple of earlier comments we wanted to clarify exactly what riders can expect on this event.

Each Rider receives a goodie bag containing the following (so far!) -

A Torq Single Shot
A Red Bull Energy Shot
A limited edition Endura Lionheart Multitube for those riders with chilly necks
And a Lionbar

with more to be announced closer to the event....

Coupled with this we had the local WI cake tasting session yesterday with the Fruit Loaf, Banana and Chocolate Loaf, and the Canadian Caramel Cake the top contenders for the food stops.

Each rider gets a free hot pot at the end of the event along with a stonking great Lionheart medal. Well done you will have earnt it!

Hope to see you there!

With this update it would have changed from a 'NO' to 'MILDLY TEMPTED'!

Having competed in triathlons and sportifs over the years, it has always struck me how mean the cycling fraternity is when it comes to paying to participate in an event. Somewhat ironic when you consider the pointless £1000s spent on acquiring the latest carbon fibre bike to shave 2 grams from your weight-load. My guess is that no one gets rich organising these events and with events like the Dragon Ride selling out in minutes, I am all for encouraging organisers to expand the number of events available - and frankly I'd rather they charged a bit more and organised them well. Decent signage, marshalling, traffic control, parking, feed stations, first aid, mechanical assistance are priceless. Stop whingeing about the cost of a new set of handlebar tape for your £250 Richie Superlogics. Or, if you are genuinely skint or a real tight-wad, go out and do the route the day before with a bunch of like-minded curmudgeons.

Oh - and freebies and medals? Really, no thanks.

Cycling isn't that cheap a hobby, and not everyone can or would spend on the snazziest bike possible. Plus a sportive is not a competition (apart from challenging yourself) so there's no 'organised sport' money being spent - I'd pay more for a competition with recognition.

I love challenging myself with road biking, and the convenience of a marked route (over Audax), and a warm room/food after, but it comes firmly behind family and the home for me so my 'cycling' budget is pretty tight. So far this year I've entered 3 sportives: Chieveley £12, Poulton £6 and Princes Risborough £18. So, IMO Lionheart looks like a price jump too far for some gimmicks. I may yet be there, cos I don't have a March target yet, but add £30-40 petrol just to get there and its looking hard to justify.

I'm sure it'll be popular though!

This looked interesting, 100 miles etc... then I saw the price! £28 - with no freebie gels/drink supplied.

Deffo MAMIL-bait.

Fail.

I'm new to this forum.

About this new cycle ride around my area, it's not the price, that is right for this £28 quid your moaning about your start is in the beautiful Longleat estate then the ride around Shearwater lake then down in the very pretty Wylye Valley to Salisbury and back up the Deverill's (on the way the Fovant Badges look on Google Earth) to Maiden Bradley around Stour Gardens,Zeals.

Then on to Bruton another old town but in Somerset then back to Alfred's Tower, then through Gary hill forest to Trudoxhill back up Gary Hill (this time of year it is cool) as this is quite long for this area but to some it will be the sting in the tail.

By not entering you will miss a great ride with fantastic scenery thrown in for free mike-L.

This was not a promo for Endure but for my local county have look on Google Earth to see what your missing and have some fun instead of racing for a change. And it will help to be welcomed here not made fun of thank you Garz.

Don't for get it cost a lot of dosh just to get into Longleat Safari park and other attractions, but if your worried about the cost Garz, say to stay over Saturday night I should be back from Cheshire by 10:00pm and your most welcome to stay with me and the wife.

I was toying with the idea of doing this one whilst down at the in-laws, but the event is sold out!
Maybe ride the route, take my own sarnies and pocket the £28, how naughty would that be?! ;)

I know a Gary Hill but I am not sure he would like you "back up " him, I am guessing you mean Gare Hill
