Hey,

I've been adjusting my hydraulic disc brakes this afternoon, elixir 3’s, after fitting a new rear rotor. I've figured out how to set the rotor in the centre of the pads etc thanks to the joys of ebay youtube, and found the reach adjust on the levers.

What i can't figure out though is how to adjust the contact point of the pads, as my rear lever has massive travel, before it makes good contact. I've tried moving it away from the bars using the reach adjust, but the brake of course simply starts further away from the bars! Other elixir brakes have tool-free adjustment, but these ones don't, and my google/youtube searches turn up nothing useful that i can find.

Does anyone have any experience of these please?

Thanks
Steve

Maybe I'm being too specific here...

After putting the new rotor in, centering the roter, and messing with the various screws to see how to do it all, my read brake lever touches the bar. I've used the reach adjust to, well, adjust, but it's still not good.

Is it possible (more reading) that I've let air into the system by loosening the wrong bolt?

Cheers

I had trouble adjusting my Aivd Elixir 3's recently too, but the opposite way... strangely my problem should be your solution if I'm understanding you correctly.

When I took the wheels off to clean the bike, I accidentally applied the brakes with no wheel, and therefore no rotor between the pads. Cue the pads instantly resetting themselves so that when the brakes were released, they were touching, refusing to allow the rotor back in.

I had to change the pads, using a screwdriver on the old pads to push them apart (again, thanks YouTube)

When I put my rotor back in, a couple of plls on the brake levers and they readjusted themselves to sit just off it - which I would presume yours SHOULD do too, however I'm guessing they aren't.

This might be something to do with you altering the reach adjust, and I say this only because I have no idea what that is, and therefore didn't touch it myself?

The post probably isn't much help as essentially it's just saying 'it should adjust itself' but I thought I'd mention it anyway in case my experience somehow helps yours, or if I've misunderstood your problem.

Thanks, really helpful to knwo it should be automatic. I swapped rotor's and it's better again. I think it must be a slightly bent rotor,

Thanks for all the help.
