After reading the write up (thank you DooBlood) of the Bryan Chapman, I thought I'd just see whether any CC-ers will be riding the E-P-E the weekend after next.

I signed up for it as it comes almost past my front door and I'm hoping for an impromptu comfort stop - and a sleep, if time allows - at 360km at home  This I hope will be sufficient R&R to make the climb of Shap on the A6 without too much grovelling

Sadly it was a disaster

I woke up with a cold on Saturday morning and things went downhill from there with the weather. So by the time we got to Kendal, well behind my intended schedule, I really didn't feel like continuing as it felt like flogging a dead horse.

I was glad I stopped as a couple of hours later, about the time the faster guys would have been leaving Preston to start back north, the wind died so they didn't even get the benefit of a tailwind after all the hours of grinding into the headwinds

Reading about it on another forum and it sounded grim! I was riding round wales and we spent a lot of time hiding in pubs!

I think your cold saved you from a lot more pain ! Though having ridden as far as Kendal into the headwind -

I was at Murrayfield on Sunday and the wind was absolutely howling around the stadium, with rain showers adding to the 'fun'. I was glad I was not cycling/ attempting to cycle in it ...

You could always have a go this weekend [a la Moffat Toffee

], as the forecast looks much better ....

Hope the cold is better gone too
