Hi Guys, my edge 800 is having a bad day! I've found a guide by someone on line that shows how i can possibly save it with the firmware update folder, but to get this off Garmin I need to use express (which isn't picking up my edge!)

Any chance anyone has or can get the latest firmware folder and send to me?

Worry over!!!

If anyone else gets the same issue, direct firmware can be found http://gawisp.com/perry/edge/

Thanks for the link, @mwktar . Is there a way to set a Garmin Edge 800's firmware to an earlier version? I have one which I'd like to revert to an earlier firmware version. Do I need any special software to do it, or is there another way to do it?

No worries, I've sorted it all out. :okay: For anyone else reading this thread, this is how to update the firmware on the Edge 800 (whether it's an upgrade or (in my case) a downgrade):
  1. If you're copying settings from another Edge (like I did**), then copy the directories 'Locations', 'Settings', 'Sports' and 'Weight' (and the files in them) from the Edge you're 'cloning' to a backup location somewhere.
  2. Download the required firmware update from http://gawisp.com/perry/edge/ (the site that @mwktar mentioned above). It will be a file with .gcd extension.
  3. Power up your Edge 800, and browse to its 'Garmin' directory****. Copy the downloaded file to this directory, and rename it to: gupdate.gcd
  4. Power down the Edge, then power it up again.
  5. When prompted to continue with the upgrade, select Yes.
  6. You'll see a progress bar showing the upgrade's progress, after which the Edge will reboot again, and it will then show the Initial Setup screens that you normally only see when you've first purchased it.
  7. Copy the directories from step 1 to their corresponding locations on the just-upgraded Edge.
  8. Power down the Edge, then power it up again.
  9. After it starts up again, you should have all the settings that you entered into the other Edge.

** Yes, it's tragic, but I actually have two of them. The firmware on the older one is at 2.40 and it works well enough, but the newer one had 2.60 and behaved oddly. I then decided to downgrade its firmware to 2.40 to match the older one. If this runs into issues, well I can just re-apply the above steps to set the firmware to some other version.
**** That's a 'folder' for those of you who didn't get used to the term 'directory', like I did, before Microsoft decided to use the dumbed-down term instead.
