I have an Edge 705 which, until now, has worked flawlessly. I uploaded a route to it this morning and navigated the route (with turn by turn prompts) with no problems. When I came to upload my ride the computer (and Garmin connect) would not recognise the unit (obviously it had recognised it only hours earlier when I downloaded the route to it).
I've tried to use my Laptop but got the same problem and when I plug my Edge 800 in it works fine.
I've done a soft reset (mode and reset buttons) and, reluctantly, a hard reset (Power button and mode switch). The devise has gone back to factory settings (loosing all my data  ) but still has the same problem.
I've tried forcing the computer to recognise the unit by holding the thumb switch up while plugging it in. Although this makes the Edge and it's memory card show up in the computers connected devices list it still won't upload to Garmin Connect, it just hangs saying please wait, oddly it also recognises the Edge as "G" drive rather than "Edge 705".
Web Updater will not recognise the unit either so I can't scan it for required updates.
OK, over to you guys - - - PLEASE!

In between here and there
Mine used to do that, and it always worked by getting a new cable. But if your 800 is using the same cable then not sure that would remedy it. The other thing was re-booting the computer.

I've rebooted the computer already and I've even tried a completely different one (my laptop). I've also tried 2 different leads
But thanks anyway.

Try a full recharge. I assume the rides save to the sd card, if so take that out.

As said, in plugs and re plug ins work. Switch the Garmin on then off after a few minutes.

The unit is fully charged and no joy. The ride is lost after the hard reset (not really worried about that at this point).

There are some posts that I've found on Google saying I should format the unit and reinstall the firmware but that sounds a bit final for me. I've emailed Garmin so hopefully there'll be a less radical solution.

Apparently the re-format only effects the user accessible part of the drive. I'll lose the base maps (no problem there) and I'll have to reinstall the firmware.

Think I'll hold this in reserve and see what Garmin have to say first.

OK, update time. Garmin never replied to my email so I called them up. 3 phone calls on hold for 30 minutes before giving up and then finally an answer on the 4th attempt!

Their answer (after placing me back on hold to go find one) was that - They thought the reformat might work! As they were not too forthcoming with any details as to how I might go about this I had to make things up a bit as I went along

Result (fortunately for me) is a fully working 705  the only thing I lost were the base maps that come with the unit but since they're slightly less than useless anyway (and I have city navigator maps on a memory card anyway) it wasn't much of a loss! lol

It was a bit scary reformatting my expensive (and out of warranty) device and it took about 20 minutes but all's well that ends well
