I've asked a similar thing on the Garmin forum, but anybody here had a problem with an Edge 500 suddenly:

1. Accepting no new courses
2. Saving no new activities
3. Freezing on certain screens (Training screen)

I've tried almost everything I can think of: re-flash, reinstall drivers, clear all the folders, do a master reset, try another PC to load courses.

I bought it two months ago from Amazon on their black Friday deal, £90 instead of £140. I think if I send it back to Amazon I will likely just get a refund and have to then spend more to be in the same position - so if there is anything else anybody is aware I can do I would appreciate their ideas!

Daft question, but have you tried to update it? Sorry if this is teaching you to suck eggs, but there is an app for updating the unit- Garmin updater plugin app.

Thanks Both.

Yes, by re-flash I meant running the Garmin Web Updater to put the current version back on (as it was the most up to date version).

Ok, it sounds like a duffer, but returning will only get a new one sent out won't it? Therefore it should only cost postage at the most.

It depends on Amazon I guess; in theory they have the ultimate choice by law of Repair, Replace or Refund. If they consider what is most economical to them I guess Refund would be.

If I hear nothing else on here or Garmin I'll then contact Amazon. To be fair to Amazon in the past they've sent out new products before receiving the old one (useful for return packaging!) and also they've also exchanged a whole product just because of a faulty charger after 10 months!

If you bought it on credit card I think you're covered statutorily for 90 days, albeit this might be for items over £100. Check with credit card provider if you bought it with one.

I have one. I don't need it but it is a great bit of kit and very reliable for me.
Good to play with and does everything I wanted it to.

It was an impulse buy for me, but I find it very useful, hence now missing it! Apart from one corrupt file (it reckoned I started my ride in 2012 and finished it many years into the future) it's been perfect until the above.

I like mine, comes in handy with the HRM to remind me to pace myself a bit when I get carried away.

My bad points: The course directions can seem a little slow until you get used to reading them, and I do find that my GPS traces frequently don't match up to segments on Strava (my traces seem to be slightly off, but this is probably a strava thing). If I go out for a ride with my wife then she can get twice as many segments using her phone GPS than I do on the 500. Tracking can be a bit patchy under tree cover in wooded trails.

My good points: It's worked for a year and a half pretty much without issue, and I've only just had to replace the battery in the speed/cadence sensor for the first time. I'm tempted to get the 510 for the glonass stuff, but not sure if it's a worthwhile upgrade.
