How long does the Edge 500 battery give in reality?

I've managed a whole week of commutes and a 3 hour weekend ride with mine... well over 10 hours and still had 40% left (with GPS on).

The manual states 18 hours, which sounds about right... you can charge it back up with any mini USB lead.

I was looking at one of these 18 seemed okay. then i read somewhere the battery quickly dropped to around 12 hours which put me off big time, Thanks may have been a one off.
