Edge 305 Holding its Charge

I never had any problem with my old Edge 305 holding its charge but I got a replacement and it does, some days if I havent used it for a while its held its charge 100% and battery life is good. Other times I can leave it charged for just a couple of days and when I come to switch it on the batteries are flat. Looking on the Web it seems quite a common problem, basically when you disconnect the unit from the USB even though it looks off the unit thinks its still on; its best solved aparently by turning it on and off manually after charging. Just passing on a tip.

Electronic devices with Li-ion batteries have all sorts of complicated electronics to regulate charge. The firmware in the device is probably reading the charge in the battery incorrectly.

I've been told that letting a Li-ion battery go completely flat is bad, frequent top-ups when it gets to about half charge is supposed to make it last longer.

My Tom Tom battery now lasts a full 7 minutes after a full charge. When new it ran for 2 hours.

That's why I like my Garmin Etrex - it takes 2 AA batteries. I have 4 NiMH cells which I alternate, charging one pair while using the other. If/when they can no longer hold their charge, I'll just buy some new ones.
