Edelux II Dynamo Headlight - Stunning

I built a new front wheel with a dynamo hub this weekend and have paired it with an Edelux II headlamp.

Have just been out for a short ride to check the beam adjustment and have to say I was stunned at the amount of illumination it gives out. Absolutely incredible! The width and evenness of the beam was a revelation.

I'm now actually looking forward to the winter commutes and can feel a few summer night rides coming on.

Happy bunny.

What are the connectors like? i always thought they were a bit naff on some dyno hubs.

I used a Son28 hub which has a couple of male spade connectors on it. They seem ok but I'm not sure how robust they will be after a couple of years removing the front wheel for bike cleaning etc. I may well put a more robust inline connector into the cable run at some point.

What lighting were you using before?

I was using a Cateye Nano Shot Plus before which I think was rated at 600 lumens, combined with another Cateye light that ran off 4xAA batteries as a backup. The Nano Shot Plus chucked out a reasonable amount of light although most of it was focused in the same small area in the middle of the lane. The Edulux seems to give a far wider spread of light.

It was a toss up for me between your model and the B&M IQ-X, both really good units. IIRC, the IQ-X was pricier but also mighty impressed with the output.

@Globalti As for output at varying speeds, that depends on efficiency of your hub and the light you pair it with, but with my light and hub combo I get a little flickering at the start of a ride up to 8km/h but over that speed I get a perfectly good beam.

Flickering only occurs when the bike has been stationary for a long while as most modern lights are built with a capacitor, so for urban stop start slow pace scanerios you dont experience flickering, just a dimmer lamp (so long as the capacitor holds a charge).

How does it deal with varying wheel speeds?

I cannot speak for this particular lamp set up, as I use a Supernova E3 on a Son dyno.

I have 'full intensity' from 8mph at the start of my ride, and this decreases to around 5/6 mph once the stand light is operational.
