Hard to say without more details. When you last ate and how far you intend to cycle? If you haven't eaten since lunch time and planned anything more than say 20 miles I would say a quick snack would be advisable and have your meal when you get back.

Can't really eat before I cycle, and I work 10 hour days,
which gives me three days off a week that I ride on.
I'd know no peace if I kept dinner waiting while I rode.

I time my meals so that when I get home. By 4:30 have my dinner, and at 5:30 go out for a ride. Get back by 8ish!

Didn't eat much yesterday cheese and onion pasty, about 4 then went out about 6.45 for a quickish 28miles (wouldn't recommended it though)

Ha, I get home at 4 usually ;)

4 Hours of homework? What? Nobody told me about that?

actually in GCSE i'm quite lucky in my chosen subjects that they are coursework heavy, stick to the deadline and there is not that much outta school work

We used to do the coursework at home ?!!! I was first year of GCSEs (when teachers were used to O Levels and GCSEs weren't p**s easy like now ;) )

Light meal then go out :bicycle:, always best to be 'tanked up', but if you're only doing a low mileage low speed ride, you should be OK to just get out & go.
If you are intending to ride intensively, you should leave 2 hours for a meal to 'settle', else you stand a good chance of seeing it again. xx(

Depends a lot on the intensity for me. If its a solo ride and I've filled up during the day, I'll just go straight out. If its a fast group ride or a club TT, I'll try to get time for a banana sandwich a few hours before we meet (ideally this will be 2hours but its not always possible). Regardless I'll have a more substantial meal when I get back from the ride.
