At the ripe old age of 34, I`ve been told by the doc that I need a grommett fitted to my left ear, as it`s been playing up for a while. Anybody else got experience of this?? I thought it was only done to kids but obviously not!! I`m just curious to know what`s involved and whether it means time off work etc?

At a guess I'd say you have had has some trouble with the pressure being out of balance in your middle ear?

The Eustachian tubes purpose is to regulate the pressure within the middle ear, when the tube gets blocked up the pressure increases on the drum leading to some hearing loss. This is common in kids as the tube can get blocked up farily easily and the condition is commonly known as 'glue ear.'

A Gromit is a vey small tube that is inserted into the ear drum allowing the pressure to regulate itself without the need for the eustachian tube. It's a farily small op and I should imagine that you would have a couple of days off.

Yes it`s been herendous and I`ve had 3 months of it now!! The worst part is it starts to take over your life, I can`t sleep very well, concentrate on anything, and am just generally miserable right now!! I`ve read up a bit since my first post and it all looks pretty simple, with instant results. I`m just waiting for the letter from ENT now to go and get it sorted, and perhaps I can get back to normal. I work in the local hospital where I`ll have it done so time off won`t mean a loss of pay.

A grommit in your ear? Hope it all goes OK for you, else you'll feel a bit of a wallace

(Sorry)

Good luck, anyway

I had them years ago as a kid, but the one in my right ear fell out during a bad ear infection.
But I think the left ones still there, as I can't put an ear plug in it, and I keep getting scars there, so I'm wondering if it's moved and what to do about it?
