Cars to give cyclists space

Responsible department: Department for Transport

Cycling is the transport of the future being healthy, cheap and non polluting however many would be cyclists are deterred from taking up cycling on British roads due to the dangerous disregard by some motorists for cyclists.

Cyclists need a cars width between them and overtaking motorists to feel and be safe on the roads. Motorists passing cyclists with just inches to spare between them and the cyclist are putting cyclists at risk and causing distress and fear of harm which is a crime in itself. Cyclists have every right to use the public roads and should not feel threatened in doing so.

We are calling for the Government to make Police take much more robust action on motorists putting cyclists at risk prosecuting dangerous motorists in the same way as those threatening physical violence.

Cars need to give us space obviously. Bigger vehicles more so. However the government cant even sort out our economy (itself paralyzed by extortionate taxes) so what reason is there to expect them to pull their fingers out over any other issue?

Bless, he's really thought about this hasn't he?
Like having to overtake by going onto the other side of the road, because you don't do that to pass a car or tractor.
Or that they cycle two abreast making them, well, as wide as a car!
And he's clearly researched it well finding out that cyclists don't have to obey the highway code.
I bet his mother's really proud.
