Dusting the cobwebs off, do i need to do anything before I ride?

I purchased a Carrera Kraken through work about 5 years ago, I rode it to work (appox 4miles each way) for a week then it got left in the shed until this weekend (I moved out of my parents 4 years ago and only just got round to fetching it!)

In a aim to lose weight I want to get riding again, given its an expensive bike which has hardly been used I dont want to break it by riding it straight after it being standing for years.

Should I get it serviced first (and if you have any suggestions for places in Birmingham that would be great) or because its been unused pretty much since I brought it will it be ok?

The chain is showing a little rust and is a bit dry but will be adding some WD40

Any hints, tips, dont do's would be great.

Thanks

Check the tyre wall for cracks and general condition. Check for any loosening to the cranks and headset and also all nuts and bolts. I wouldn't use WD40 on the chain but clean it with a degreaser, dry off and then apply some wet lube. Dry off any excess then run the bike through its gears, re-lube and wipe off any excess again. A little rust shouldn't be a problem. Finally, and probably most importantly, check that the brakes are in good order and brake pads are aligned to the rim correctly (assuming rim brakes). A little dab of oil onto moving parts (wiping off any excess) and then get out and give it a ride.

That will get you started, take your first ride easy and any other problems will make themselves known pretty quickly.
