Hello all

Im thinking about upgrading my Shimano 105 brakes to Dura Ace ones and ive got a question will i be able to use the same cables as there brand new cables , if not will i have to remove all the bar tape to fit new cables ?

Sorry just a little confused

Thanks for your help

You want to buy Dura Ace brakes but are jibbing at buying new cables?

Why do you want Dura Ace? Do you race? What advantages are you expecting? What bike are you fitting them to?

Please don't take offence, I am genuinely curious.

You won't need to remove the bar tape assuming you are only changing the cables and not the outer casing.

Why the upgrade?

Thanks for the replys

Yes im planning on doing some races with my club this year and as i wrote i currently have the 105 brakes which are new on the bike

Its my Cannondale Six im putting the brakes on and im not bothered at buying new cables but was not sure if i needed to ?

I am wanting to upgrade my bike but can only do it slowly as the prices are pretty steep

Cheers

I stand to be corrected but I would've thought 105 brakes would be fine for your purposes.

105 spec. Cannondale Six with the Askium wheelset?

If you are just starting out in racing, then I would suggest you spend your money on other mods. Wheels are far more important than the small weight sving which Dura Ace will give you. Unless you have top notch wheels already, then an intelligent upgrade will assist your acceleration and climbing.

The Cannondale Six is an excellent bike which will certainly take upgraded kit, but brakes I suggest are not top priority.

If cash is tight then look at the Ultegra range - DA is only a bit better and really not worth the extra expense unless you are ultra competitive.

As the others have said, there are better areas to upgrade.

Thanks for all the replys its been a great help

ive saved my money but spent a little bit on a new seat because mine was marked from the recent owner

I have another road bike a Fausto Coppi and when i do buy parts the ones of the cannondale will be swapped onto my FC Winterbike .

If the cables are running fine, then keep them, although you'll notice a difference with nice new cables....

DA is very nice though !

DA stuff is very nice, but, if I'm honest, DA brakes come under the heading of 'middle-aged male jewellery'. Now DA wheels.......they are worth the money. Ohhhhhhhhhhh yesssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!1

why? according to Wiggle the Dura Ace 7900 brakes "Must be used in conjunction with ST7900 STI or BLTT79 aero levers for correct leverage ratio". So new levers too. Not sure about the 7800 ones

I'd rather upgrade/replace the brake pads (if you are adamant on brake upgrades) and splash the remainder of the cash on some nice tyres!

Of course its up to you what you most desire to spend your cash on but you could play much better strategic cards in the upgrade game. 105 is a good groupset and is race worthy.

Thanks Guys

Im very happy with the Tyres ive got on at the moment and im upgrading the stem to a Carbon System Six and im just going to leave it as it is at the moment .

Might look into getting some wheels in the next few months as these are Brand New / Infact the bike as only been used like 5 times at the most .

I know someone that has Dura Ace Brakes and he runs them on different leavers so maybe its just a catch to buy the leavers aswell as the brakes which adds up a good sum of cash .

But im happy with my Carbon Seat Post & my New Fizik Seat at the moment
