Short Answer:
Probably, as long as the shifter is reasonably modern.
Long Answer:
I've used a 7900 rear mech with 7800 shifters, so the pull ratio wasn't changed with 7900. I know the pull ratio of all shimano from sora 8 speed, Tiagra 9 speed, 105 10 speed and ultegra 10 speed and onward is compatible, i.e. the shifter will pull the correct length of cable to move the mech one cog of the casette, more for fewer speeds spaced further apart, less for high speeds closer together (and I think is the true way back except for 8 speed Dura Ace when that was current, you'd have to check Sheldon). Don't know about new 11 speed Dura Ace. So unless it's an old 9speed Dura Ace shifter, yes.
