Did a dummy commute run tonight to a) see how long it took me and b) check the route itself. The round trip is actually just over 14 miles due to a shortcut which i wasn't aware of rather than the expected 16 miles.
Not very happy with the cycle path which i have to take (as i believe the stretch of dual carriage way from Dunkirk island to the QMC is no go for the cyclis) as its crap....but to be honest what with the merging traffic and fast entrance to the QMC i dont think i have much choice but to use the cycle path here.........and i think it is still the shortest route so far as i can make out.
Upshot was my average was down to 11 mph down from just over 14mph i have been achieving what with having to cross roads etc. Mind you in normal circumstances i guess i should be faster as i'll have a break in between getting there and returning!
Did come across an accident between two cyclists just at the junction of University Boulevard. They had apparently collided, i stopped and chatted with who turned out to be one of the people involved, who was alright... the other was still lying in the road but talking and people were directing traffic round him. There were several people helping so there was nothing i could do so i carried on. An ambulance was just about to leave the scene on the way back so it did take some time for them to attend! i know its a long shot but if you were either of the people involved in the accident....hope you are ok!

Hope both are alright.

Was that around here?

Came across that, must have been around 7-7:30pm last night and looked pretty serious - fire engine and ambulance in attendance. Quite a few other cyclists about helping out. Someone said a cyclist had been involved in a collision with one of the park and ride buses, but that may well be incorrect.

Yes Jezston, the guy in the road was right on the crossing itself on the right hand side as you look at the view you have posted. The guy i spoke to on the pavement (cycle path) was involved, it was a collison between two people i'm pretty sure he said they were both cyclists although i might of heard wrong and the guy in the road might of been a ped as he didn't look as though he was dressed for being on a bike.
Didn't see a fire engine when i passed on the way back although there was a second ambulance trying to get to the scene....as i was pacing it on the univeristy side of the road...traffic was snarled up...we may well have passed eachother then!
