I got a new spring kit for my free hub as its been slipping..
the new spring has a 90° tail..i cant see where this goes or locates ?
Thers no hole but there is a spring stop post in the hub to stop spring rotation..like a piston ring stop etc..

the old spring has lost the tail...and has become weak

anyone have any experience of these..

There is a slot there somewhere, 90 degrees to the groove for the spring.

Ive got a feeling the little post has turned? As its a slotted spring type pin
As no slot vissable in the grove..
I think it locates in the spring slot?

Is the pin visible inside the spring groove?

yes..and why im thinking it may locate in the spring pin..
but it would need drilling out as its very secure..
bit odd if its moved to be honest..but iirc im sure a bit of spring fell out first time i cleaned and re- lubed the free hub..
very dissapointed with these dt swiss wheels..

Don't drill. Spring pins are made from very hard carbon steel and the surrounding material is probably aluminium. The drill will simply ignore where you want to go and start tunneling next to the pin.
I've done a ton of those pawl springs but for the life of me I don't think I've come across one with the tang anchored such a manner. I'm mulling over this.
BTW, if you break a lot of springs - they break mostly from corrosion because of the poor seals, just bend them yourself. I used to buy piano wire from a hobby shop, heat the end and bend a tang. For the circular bit I had a small piece of alu tubing with just the right dia to allow the spring to expand to the right diameter.

After more research it would seem CRC pawl kit is for a DT Swiss 2 pawl hub and not the 3.
the 3 pawl has a no tang..so ill just snip the tang off.
it has more tension than the one in my free hub but its a poor design hub if you ask me.

thanks for your time @Yellow Saddle much appreciated

ive sorted my DT swiss wheels but they have instilled a trail fail in my head so there going ..

id like to get some sram roam 40 or 50 but they are a lot for muddy stuff i tend to do so maybe ill stick with the mavics
