What should dry lube feel like once you've put it onto a clean chain? I have no experience of this type of lube and after I applied it, it felt wet, not dry.

Could this be because I have left de-greaser on the chain?

It takes time to 'set up' dry, apply it some time before a ride is what I do, assuming it's the dry wax type lube?

The one I have says to apply at least 4 hours before a ride...

I only use a tiny drop on each link - seems to work OK.
(Clean the chain thoroughly before you start)

Thanks for the help, I've cleaned the chain again and applied the lube, hopefully it will be ok in a few hours time. If I've left too much degreaser on the chain and it breaks the lube down, what is the best way to thoroughly clean it?

In my old job degreasing engine and brake parts I used brake and clutch cleaner, took the grease off everything, basically a strong solvent.

I'm trying to get rid of the stuff that gets rid of the grease, because if it's already on the chain it will break the dry lube down as soon as it goes on. And I can't have that on me new bike.

EDIT: I'm using muc-off dry lube by the way.

I use GT85 to clean and degrease, then apply dry lube.

That's EXACTLY what I did, did you remove the GT85 or anything? Or just wipe and apply dry lube?

Just use a clean rag (a Primark Tshirt that's gone out of shape after a single wash is ideal), hold it round the chain between the rear mech and the cranks and turn the cranks backards to drag the chain through the rag.

I reapply the GT85 and re-clean if the chain is particularly grubby, but once is usually enough if you do it weekly.

Then a single drop of dry lube on each link... there's no point getting lube all over the chain - it's inside the links that you want it.

Right, that's what I did, precisely. I'm happy now. Thanks!
