DRM free music downloads

Encouragingly, there's more and more. Perusing the top 5 albums thread today, I was checking out the ones I didn't know on http://www.tescodigital.com/Store/ and was quite encouraged to note that lots more tracks are downloadable as MP3's.

I''ve always held off music downloads because I didn't want to be saddled with proprietary formats like Apple or Windows, which are also crippled by inbuilt DRM. Well, looks like those days are fading.

MP3 is a proprietary format, not an open standard. For that, you want to look at Ogg Vorbis or FLAC.

Most music from the iTMS is now available DRM-free, albeit as AAC. Don't bother with it myself, but you might not have known that. The person to ask about legit DRM-free music in the UK (a lot of online stuff is US-only) is actually bonj, who has been looking at this with more fervour than I.

True, my mistake, I meant I didn't want to be saddled with drm which MP3 doesn't carry (I don't think it can, can it?).
