Coming home from a club ride tonight from Ashton Under Lyne to Failsworth had a drink thrown at me by the passenger of a blue Fiat Punto W 746 KFB. Not hurt but was covered on my right side in a cream type sudstance.

Got home and phoned the police non emergency number gave the details and got a log number,

Does anyone know how Greater Manchester Police deal with these kind of incidents?

Hope the Police do take action; whoever threw the drink can't be very bright

What a great pity that one cannot easily access the details of the car owner. A nocturnal visit and something innocuous, like paint stripper, poured over his vehicle might encourage him to have more control over his idiot passengers.

Unfortunately these days if the drivers denies everything it will probably not progress, as the Police seem completely uninterested in incidents where it's just one persons word against another.
I could be wrong, it could be the car being used has been reported for similar behaviour before/the same day by someone else.

Saw a couple of kids throwing stones from a driveway at a boarded up building on my way through Warrington yesterday... they see me about to come past - I'm expecting to have to stop, turn round and collar the little feckers - but I lock eye contact with one of them long enough for him to look sheepishly away...

...I glide past without a care in the world

I don't think it that they are uninterested. What are they going to do ? Catch up with them and have a word is about all they can do, and that might just have an effect.
Unless there is come kind of evidence it will go nowhere, and, sadly an officer spending a couple of hours or more locating someone and letting them know they have been identified will not show up on any kind of performance tables even though it might well be a good use of their time.

Coppers have for years been saying they are hide bound by paperwork and unless and until that is addressed too many of them will be doing just that. Paperwork.

My recent experience is they know one persons word against another reports, when no injury or serious damage is caused, are a waste of their time.
No blame on the Police, they have to make priority choices with limited time/resources.

I had similar, in Cumbria, about 5 years ago.
I gave the police the reg. no. of the car, and they couldn't have given a toss about it :-(

Perhaps if it had knocked me off ,and I got run over by the car following they may have cared? I dunno.....

A few months back my chain came off on the dual cw, after I was stopped for a few seconds outside the Police station a bottle or something got thrown out of a passing car, their aim was poor though. The neds a few week earlier had better aim unfortunately and through a bottle which burst open my ankle :-( They were on foot though.

It's hard to prove, I had chips thrown at me before I got my headcam, and even with a headcam I don't think I would have caught it all on camera because it happened as I went past and the car then sped off, then didnt have time to catch it all.

I was knocked off my bike years ago, by someone turning left in front of me (I slid down their rear wing). The driver buggered off. I got the licence plate, and had two witnesses.

The silly bint behind the desk couldn't have cared less, and that was that. I was young and stupid, today I'd have made an official complaint about it.

If they don't care about cyclists being knocked off, I think they'd probably laugh about drinks being thrown.

What will happen will be the same as if you had reported it to Lancashire Constabulary and probably a few others; the report will be placed on the Police National Computer against that car reg. In the unlikely event that the car is seen by a patrol car (ha ha!) equipped with ANPR the alarm will sound and the driver will be stopped for a chat and a "producer". If there are already three reports against that driver they stand to lose the vehicle. At the least it will give the driver a fright.

We have used this system successfully to deal with two habitual speeders in our street and it does work.

GM Police non-emergency number: 0161 872 5050

They will take it seriously. I've reported idiots twice in the last 4 years. Both via the Manchester number. "nd one I went for an interview. PS - was allowed to bring bike in interview room - this was Longsight !

It's usually a knock on the door, and a Section "whatsit" marker on the vehicle.

First one was a group of lads/passenger being abusive - the driver got a visit. Second was an idiot in a car driving at me - followed the police's guidance - i.e. take it further - I had a full interview etc. - driver was known, but as it was one word against another (and they did local video checks) the guy got another against him but no prosecution (PS hand raising - no fingers - the guy thought it OK to try and run me off road - I was aggressive ). The copper explained that if I just went intelligence, then that was that, but if I was formally interviewed, then it's all down on record, even if they can't pin it on him, then it's a proper log against him. Idiots like this will get caught eventually if we are prepared to report them.
