Drifting rear wheel?

Nope, I'm not trying some stunts, at my age it wouldn't be too clever!

Basically, I got a flat tyre on my Trek (2013 4500 Disc) a couple of weeks back. Took the rear wheel off and the little 'spring' that goes on the drive side was wedged in. Got it out after some agro and ever since my bike has felt like it was drifting slightly when accelerating hard or from standstill in a low gear. Replaced the spring, span the wheel and nothing obvious like buckled rim, it's very slightly out of true but nothing that would concern me, and it's still doing it.
I've replaced the skewer tonight and not ridden the bike yet, but if that hasn't cured it does anyone know what the likely problem is, please?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, Ipretro1, I should have mentioned I also replaced the rear tyre too and that hasn't stopped it. Thanks for the input though, advice always welcomed.

Is the QR tight, is the rear axle seated properly and in the right place i.e not off centre because one side has gone in more than the other. Cassette spinning freely , all gears changing correctly?

Back to the problem. Granny and eggs and all, but you are using the QR skewer correctly ?? the symptons seem to point to a loose wheel, or just maybe, an under inflated tyre ??

Granny > Eggs (continued): I don't know if it would make much difference, but are the wee springs on the skewer the right way round? It's a bit counter-intuitive, but the "pointy" ends should be pointing inwards, with the wider ends resting against the skewer, thusly: >------<
