A mate and I used to play that game with HiFi magazines back in the 80s, I seem to remember getting to around the £250,000 mark but the big question was would it sound better than the QUAD amplifier based set-ups that we both had at the time.

Exactly, and would a 17k bike ride any better than a 1k cf bike, just because the components are the most expensive you can buy doesn't necessarily make it the best bike you can buy .

Meaningless comparison; unless it was done in a totally objective scientific manner, under controlled conditions, in order to eliminate any variables.

it was gadget show a presenter and a professional rider did a 400m sprint around a race track on the £550 bikes and then another go round with the rider staying on the £550 and the presenter on a custom designed £6500 bike and the presenter was better by 2 seconds so basically not scientific at all lol

I'm sure that bike rides beautifully, but I'd much rather spend my £17k on a stable of bikes for all occasions (all of which would look much prettier than that black and white thing, by the way) and have a few thousand left over to put into the kids' savings accounts.
