Yes, I'm finally putting a bit more money where my mouth is. My old jalopy bike http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/£20-purchase.163524/ is going to become a spare, or maybe even just a donor of her tyres depending if they fit.

I'm off to collect a suitably purple bike tomorrow! Still not breaking the bank and no not a grand bike like so many on here (which are spectacular) but I'll be kitted out enough for family rides on the lovely cycle track now and hoping to get a suitable bag for my laptop to be able to aim to commute to work - it's about 6 miles so can be done on a dry day. So my goal is to up my mileage somewhat and taking my 2nd little step into the world of cycling.

Much prefer the colour of this one to Fruit Salad bless her ;-)
6 miles commute is do-able, be lovely next Spring, not so sure about commuting in the winter....it's alright to be cold and wet when you get home and can curl up on the sofa but starting the day cold and wet is just 'orrible!

haha I know fruit salad was challenged in a lot of ways ;) but she served a good purpose of getting me cycling again. I really wasn't confident I'd keep it up or even enjoy it. I have started to feel a bit self conscious of her, next to my hubby and 2 girls on new shiny bikes she looked even worse!

I'm not sure I would attempt the commute in the winter - it's coastal cycle path so will be open to the elements too. I'm not brave enough for roads yet. All to be worked on, and be nice to work toward for spring. Give me something to keep us going on nice days over the winter. I have mentioned I'll need to dig out my winter horse riding gloves and gilet for my bike! I used to ride motorbikes and rode in all weathers but I'm a bit older now ;).

Now to name the new one ... any suggestions? Porffor is purple in Welsh.
