Got myself a new pair of MTB spd shoes and on fitting the cleats to them, I wasn't sure of the best position to fit them in the recess. I tried to guestimate, using my old ones as a guide and only lightly screwed the cleats in place until I was sure they were in the best position.

I balanced myself on the bike alongside the wall of the back of my house and stupidly clipped both feet in to see how they felt, backpedalling, with one hand on the wall.

Happy with them I flipped heels out to release the clips, to find that with the stiffness of them being new and the fact that I had only lightly tightened the screws, the cleats were rotating enough to prevent release.

That was me stuck on the bike, thinking.... "F'Idiot".

I ended up escaping by releasing the velcro straps off my right shoe and got my foot out, leaving the shoe on the pedal, then same on the other side.

Valuable lesson learnt

I had a slightly similar experience when I lost two cleat bolts on the way home, I only discovered it when I couldn't release.

Luckily (very luckily,) it held on until I got home!

not quite done that but once clipped in a shoe to the pedal and could not get if off .... had to get my foot into the shoe in order to twist it off.
