Whilst I'm sure this bike will be fine, I'm of the opinion that you get more bang for your buck with entry level Specialized's, Giant's, Orbea and Ridgebacks. And others. Even the Boardman entry level road bike from Halfords. Size shouldn't prevent you from using the sleeker models unless you're 20 stone +

Some good deals going for last year's models at the moment which is where I would be looking.

Sittingduck.

I'm 20 stone, and I ride one of these.

I've never had a problem with it, but I'd prefer a triple rather than a double chainset.

I have no experience of the Decathlon, but i wouldnt be put off by the budget price.
I have an 'entry level' Raleigh Chimera...its been bloomin brilliant for the price a paid 6 or 7 years ago. Winter and summer use, was my main bike, covered plenty of miles...still going strong.
Trouble is...entry level Giant, Spesh etc....are still going to cost a lot more than the Decathlon.
If thats what you can afford, i'd go for it.

Hard to tell from the photo, but looks like it has no braze ons/eyelets for racks and mudguards. Are you going to ride this in winter/rain and want to carry anything?

What size tyres can you fit on that? If you are a big lad, you want big(ger) tyres.

Yeah I asked them if they would put 25's on but they have none in stock - otherwise it wouldn't have been a problem, they said. Mudguards not a huge issue, as I wont be using it for winter commuting really.

The Jury is still out but I will have to wait until Feb now anyway as I ended up going out on the lash Yesterday and spending some of the money I had set aside!

Thanks for the input peeps.

For a 1st bike, I would recommend mudguards. If you want to cycle through the year and become less of a 'chunky monkey' then you need to do it regularly not just when the sun is shining.
