Does anyone have a Hilleberg Nallo GT tent I could see/borrow please

Hi

We are setting out of a world tour in March 2011 and am hoping to purchase the Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT, but have read some mixed reviews mostly relating to noise. From what I can see, assuming that I can get hold of the inner mesh tent, it will meet all of our needs from all extremes of temperature and alltitudes that we will be going to and I am quite likely to purchase it.

What I was wondering was if anyone in my area, Surrey/Hampshire/West Sussex happens to have one of the Nallo range, could I borrow or at least see it pitched before I invest in one. I have no issues in driving to see one in the south and am due back in Somerset in 5 weeks time when we are due to pick up our expedition bikes. We also tend to visit the north midlands/Lancashire (staffordshire and manchester area) quite a bit for family visits so can travel etc.

Many thanks
Emma

Emma. I had exactly the same concerns about noise. You may have see the topic I started on this forum. I'm also running one on the CTC Forum that you may find of interest. The gerneal opinion of current owners is that there's no noise if you pitch the tent properly and that it's the best of it's type there is on the market. I've just gone ahead and bought mine.

Have just bought it this morning online from 'Taunton Leisure.' £620 with the footprint included and free postage. I don't know if they do the mesh inners. I've got the Hilleberg brochure with me and their price list shows the mesh inner for a 3GT at £130 RRP. I dare say you can get it cheaper than that. I saved £118 off their RRP on my purchase. I have a feeling you'll have to buy it as an extra though.

You're trip sounds fanatstic. What tourers are you getting?

Tauton Leisure had previously stated that they can not get the inner mesh for me online but I should try contacting their shop.

Just bought the bikes - well ordered them (with deposit) after going for a fitting yesterday - Thorn Nomad Mk II's for both of us. After a lot of research they just seemed to be the best bike for us - not least of all, I have limited use of my left hand so changing gears on my mtb tends to be a reluctant choice. But also that we are expecting more off roading than tarmac for needed a bike based on mtb and able to stand up to what we will be throwing at it in time. Some tourers seem to be based on road bikes and more based on living on tarmac than the gravel and off road options that I know we will end up on.. We collect them in 5 weeks - just in time for Christmas.

If you are going on a world tour, I suggest you consider the Nammatj instead of the Nallo. The Nammatj is heavier, but also sturdier (and roomier).

I have spoken with our local Cotswold shop and they have agreed to get both Nallo 3 GT and Nammatj 3 GT in for us and pitch them in the shop so we can decide there and then - the proviso is that we purchase one of them - but at least we will have seen both of them pitched and we able to explore them first. There are features of both that I like - the extra ventilation on the Nallo but the constant height across the entire height of the Nammatj - the mesh on the outer doors of the Nammatj but the inner mesh tent of the Nallo (that one at least we can get around - using the mossie net inside the tent if needed - (I can easily adapt it to attach if needed.) At the moment we are going towards the Nammatj - I just need to confirm - my only concern is that it may not have enough ventilation for warmer climates. Still the local shop have come to our rescue and are helping us out even though they can not return the other tent to Hilleberg afterwards becuase they are not stockists.

The only downside is that because it is a special order, I can't get the CTC discount that is usually available - but seeing the 2 side by side is worth more to me.

thanks for the advise.

That sounds like a good shop, and worth the little bit extra money. When our Keron 4 GT family tent family packed up a few days before our holididay, we quickly needed a new tent for just the two of us, but not too cramped because the children are still coming with us, but now (mostly) in their own tents. I went to my own shop, and asked them to put up both the Nammatj 3 GT and the Nallo 3 GT. The Nammatj was considerably more spaceous, and I am glad I got it. I am not sure what you mean by the Nallo's better ventilation, because the Nallo does not have the mesh vent in the rear that the Nammatj has (or do you mean when used with the Nallo's mesh inner?). Anyway, the stronger materials of the Nammatj also mattered to me. But everyone's conditions and preferences are different, and either one wil be a fine tent.
