The release agent is the main problem, try washing the tread with washing up liquid and CAREFULLY rinsing off with a lot of clean warm water.

as lee says you should scrub the factory coating off with sandpaper.
It's like a white sheen, just scrub it till that white sheen has gone. On the tops, not the sidewalls.

Thanks folk. The bike handled well on this morning short commute in the damp (just over 3 miles); what difference riding that as opposed to the Hybrid up Dundas St and most of the bosses are away so I should make the club run and the mist is starting to rise, I'm really looking forward to it now.

It will be fine within two miles of riding

I'd have thought so too.
Yip certainly found, thanks again folks. The short commute 3 miles + 2 miles to the start of the club run seemed perfect. Drizzle came on during the club run and the heavens opened when I was nearly home but the tyres handled well at over 19.6mph, pity about the rest of the bike and rider

That wasn't real rain it was only a little bit damp;)

It looked fairly heavy from the kitchen window as you lot were heading off from the Commie, but I was in the warm and dry, so will just have to take your word for it...
