as long as all you're doing is surfing the web, looks fine. tiny hd and little ram will make it fairly poo for anything else.

you might be best putting linux on too.

I've got an Asus EEE, but the 901 model rather than the 701 in your link. I think it's great, but it's very small. Tiny keyboard, tiny screen, and not a lot of built in storage by modern standards. If you're happy with that, then it's a fabulous little gadget. The small size and weight makes it very portable.

I'm not sure that all the pictures on your link are of the 701 model. The 7" screen shouldn't come all the way to the edges of the lid. The angled view looks correct, but the square-on open view does not.

More information on the EEE range at http://eeepc.asus.com/global/products.html. Hover over 7" to see the 701SD model. Asus say that it comes bundled with a 30GB external hard drive, but I don't see mention of that on the Carphone Warehouse page.

I've got the 7" 4G model, I carry it in my trunk bag. Lets me cycle out on calls and loaded with XP Pro and a few apps I can quite happily use it for data recovery, networking, etc etc

I stuck 2GB RAM in mine and an 8GB card, and as long as you dont want to view spreadsheets or write code, it is fine. (also note that photoshop wont install easily due to screen resolution issues, but it can be done by hooking it up to a monitor.)

In short good for a gadget

The only negative thing I've heard about the EEE 701, is some people find the keyboard a little cramped. It's been a smash hit.

If I was buying a netbook tomorrow, I think the Samsung would be my first choice, but it's twice the price of the EEE!
