I don't blame people for not stopping people who are obviously committing a crime, so many people get stabbed or attacked these days it's no wonder people just walk past.

I wouldn't want to risk being stabbed just to save someone elses, even my own, bike.

I understand your concern and the advice of police is not to get involved, I don't know if I would be able keep my mouth shut, but regardless, anyone seeing something suspicious should call the police.

I don't blame you either, but it's a bit sad when the Police let it go.

How can they tell if its your bike or not? Indeed, how do you tell that your not buying a stolen bike from the local rag which just seems like a deal which is 'too good to be true'??

Because if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

However there are exceptions, such as Michael Jacksons death.

The coppers have never managed to find any of the FOUR bikes i have had stolen.

I work nights and am often out and about in the small hours, its amazing how many young teenagers you see around on bikes. I have often asked myself if the police ever stop these kids and ask what they are up too. Maybe totally innocent, but no harm in checking. I know I own bikes worth a total of around £4000, and i'd like to think something was being done to reduce thefts.

I think that when buying a secondhand bike if you buy it from the vendors home address it should be fairly safe.Check under the bottom bracket for post code stamping or serial number being filed off.I wouldnt buy anything where the vendor didnt want me to know where he lived.

I see Police round here giving 'high fives' and joking with boys on women's bikes, and bikes that they are too small for.
