does anyone have any training tips for this or websites that they can recommend for training for this?

At the moment, I am doing 15 miles per day commuting and want to this next September?!

The idea has improved.

When it was initially mooted, it was suggested the cost was going to be £10 or £15 and I did wonder what you got for it - chip timing and your name put on a website ?

Certainly, unlike the FWC you wouldn't get any feedstops, no route direction arrows, and you wouldn't get the experience of doing it in-company with 1000 other people.

Now it appears it's £2 http://www.fredwhittonchallenge.org.uk/fourseasons_details.html

But I do still wonder why you need it though - nothing stops you downloading the route off the FWC website and just riding round it yourself, timing yourself with your bike computer or watch.

I'm not sure what the accuracy of chip timing adds to it - nor comparing your time to that of other people who did it on different days, at different times of the year, in different weather, stopped for different lengths of time in different caffs or didn't stop at all, etc.
